PURPOSE MATTERS.

In 2022, the US Surgeon General released a rare public health advisory, Protecting Youth Mental Health, calling on our nation to address the growing mental health crisis impacting young people. He cited one in three high school students reported persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness and that suicide rates for young people rose 57% in a decade.

According to The Stanford Center on Adolescence, purpose is one of the most essential but overlooked aspects of healthy adolescent development. Research shows that teens who seek purpose find higher levels of life satisfaction and happiness, are more resilient and healthier. Developing purpose can serve as a protective factor, helping to mitigate risk against depression and attempted suicide (Stanford Center of Adolescence).
